Another day at the pharmacy
Post Body

So we all have our horror stories and have that one time we can say we actually lost our cool. Today was the day I lost my cool. I've been working for CVS for 2 months now and have been dealing with some of the absolute worst and most rude people I have ever met in my life. I have no idea how all these people seem to just congregate here but they do. Anyway on to what happened today. So I fill a prescription for a new variant of a Med we hardly use, needless to say, I remembered it which should have been my first clue to how this was gonna go. The customer comes in and I greet him smiling and happy cause the morning was going very well. I noticed he had been talking with someone on the phone and that he's kinda in a mood and is very sassy. I pull him up on checkout and notice that the prescription is over 3 grand. I ask him if he has insurance which he says he does so I ask him to come down to drop off so I can put his insurance in. I ask him for the card and he says he doesn't have it and that his doctor's office sent the prescription in so the Insurance should have been applied already. I ask him if he usually uses CVS which he says he doesn't as he gets his meds from a specialty pharmacy and that it's closed cause it's the weekend and that he needs these meds rn. I tell him again I need the insurance card or a photo of the insurance so I can apply to the script. He starts to yell at me that we should just call the doctor's office cause he doesn't have the card or any of the info and they do and he doesn't understand why he can't just pick it up. I explain to him that once again it's a Sunday his doctor's office is closed and they would have his PCP insurance, not his script insurance anyway and without written consent, his Doctor's office since he's not there sharing the info with me would be a violation of Hipaa. I then proceed to turn the script around to show him the cost on it and that there's no insurance when I pull up his profile. He then yells at me that I just violated Hipaa because I turned the script towards him to show him and the other customers walking by can see his info. At that point I had it and told him DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT HIPAA VIOLATIONS YOU AREN'T A HEALTHCARE WORKER. He then proceeds to cuss me out and to talk to the Pharmacist, he comes over and asks the guy for the insurance like I already did and the guy answers he doesn't have it and my pharmacist says he'll work on it and takes it back to the workstations I go back to doing QP and apologize to the rest of the staff for losing my cool. He walks away after 5 mins while my Pharmacist trys his best to find the insurance. An hour passes and a Nurse from Doctors office calls and without giving me anything to confirm who she is or the practice gives me his info and breaks Hipaa. She also gives me his PCP insurance which I explain won't help anyway. This guy bitched to his doctor so much that he made one of the nurses go to the office on the day its closed. Anyway wrapping it all up the Nurse calls again breaks Hipaa a second time and then he had his best friend try to give me the same information til he finally calls and gives us the right info after the sixth time. Pharmacy life baby you gotta love it when he finally picked up his meds he asked where a leader in the store was so he could complain and my coworker explains we're a CVS and separate from the rest of the store so she doesn't know. Everyone else after him was really really nice and I actually enjoyed the rest of the day.

I am so sorry that they killed your cool. I hope one day it gets resurrected and that things go better for you.

Huh, I was always told we need proof first saying that the patient says its ok to give it and then verify the person on the phone is who they say they are? I'm gonna have to talk to my pharmacist now thanks for the clarification its much appreciated.
