Hello everyone!
I just recently graduated from CSULB with a degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management and I wanted to share some stuff I have reflected on.
To successfully get a good paying job after college this is what I recommend you start to look at. Look into different entry level rolls like Materials Analyst, Associate Buyer or Logistics Coordinator. Learn what the requirements are and how you can gain the experience. Take internships during school if you can. Try to find internships that will allow you to use excel for data analysis and apply different supply chain theories. Also find internships that will give you experience using Oracle or SAP or some type of Enterprise Resource Planning.
Make a LinkedIn and add friends you make along the way to your network along the way. They can and will help you by either giving you a heads up about open positions or give you accommodations on your profile. This will help give you credibility after college. Also while you are in school take advantage of LinkedIn learnings so you can learn and have some type of "Certificate" on your resume and LinkedIn.
Another thing to consider is the Association for Supply Chain Management or the ASCM. You can get a free membership to an organization that is widely recognized. You can use it for networking or for reference material. They also issue certifications but they are expensive, upwards of $1000 , but if you can swing it take a look at the different certifications and see which one you would want for the position you want after college.
Finally the last thing I wanted to say is to try and take SCM 414 before SCM 410 or SCM 411. I learned a lot more from that class that was applied to my internship. Obviously, if you want to get into freight/logistics or operations/production you will want to take the corresponding class first.
I hope this helps or give you some information fellow OSCM majors.
