So I bought a large drop point Sebenza 31 and love everything about it except for opening it. I’ve watched every YouTube video on the subject and I’m still at a point where this knife is basically impossible to open one handed. Once the knife starts to open, it is glassy smooth throughout the entire travel.
And when I say it is tough to open, I mean that my thumbnail has quite literally been ripped off of the nail bed. I had changed the angle of my thumb to a bit of an angle instead of straight up with no results. I’ve greased the ceramic ball with no results.
Most of the responses/advice was “just carry it everyday and break it in. So I opened and closed the knife 2,000 times with 2 hands. Exactly 2,000 times. Absolutely no change whatsoever. I’m not exactly sure how long is expected for a break in period, but 2,000 is a lot.
Is this a situation where I need to be contacting CRK?
Update: It’s been fixed! Someone suggested that while disassembled check the lock bar to see if it was too tight. Not only was it insanely tight, there was virtually no lubricant anywhere in that knife. Loosened the lock bar slightly and greased her up and now it opens as smooth as glass just as advertised. Thank you all for your advice!
Might be a pinched washer? Have you reassembled it several times?
