We have been roll hunting for 20 years, and in that time we have had some good boxes particularly when we first started. But 5 weeks ago we hit the lottery on halves. We got our usual weekly order (4 boxes of halves). Before we start opening rolls we always look for enders. We found some in the first box we checked (see pics) and then the fun started...best single box we have opened in all 20 years of hunting coin rolls
The first box gave us 183 90% and 1 40%
140 of the halves were Franklins and included at least one Franklin from every year they were released. This makes me think the Franklins were someone's collection.
Maybe the coins were inherited by someone who didn't know their worth. Or swiped by someone who paid for their smokes or liquor. Or sadly, in todays economy someone needed to pay bills or buy food. Likely they were dumped at a bank that makes you use an automatic change counter so they all ended up in one bag and then in one box. To all be I one box like it was I suspect they were all spent/dumped all at once somewhere.
Whatever the circumstances it is obvious that if a person/clerk received them did not realize the coins were worth more than 50 cents.
With the 3 walkers in that first box. I will be honest, we did hope maybe there would be a bunch more walkers in one the other 3 boxes. But looking back hoping that was just down right greedy.
Total 185-90% 12-40%
Box 1 gave us 140-Franklin's, 40-64's, 3-Walkers and 1-66
Box 2 gave us 2 64's
Box 3 skunked us
Box 4 gave us 11-40% (various dates including a 1970-d 40%) I bought a 70-d a few years ago, but this was our first find in the wild.
Thanks for letting us share. It was a great hunt.
