CR6-SE keeps homing higher and higher
Post Body

I recently got a CR6-SE second hand that's got a lovely little problem. Every time I try to home, the Z-axis decides that it's zero-position is higher and higher off the print bed, by pretty large increments

For example, I disabled the stepper motors to bring the Z-axis all the way down, so the nozzle is touching the print bed. Pressing home, the X and Y axis work great, but after homing is finished, the nozzle is a whole inch off the print bed! When I went to home it a second time, at the end of the process the nozzle was now sitting at 1.75 inches above the print bed. A third home resulted in the nozzle sitting 2.5 inches above the print bed, it just keeps going.

My CR6-SE is currently running the community firmware, I'm not sure which revision (it was loaded on when I received the machine). I already had to repair the Z-Stop Sensor (one of the solder points had broken, it's illuminating red now as it's supposed to).

For steps I've taken to try and fix this:

  • Turn off and on, and try again (several times even)
  • Disassembled the hot end enclosure, checked all the cable connections to ensure nothing was loose
  • Disassembled the hot end enclosure, tightening and loosening the screw that talks to the Strain Gauge (neither loosening it or tightening it seemed to have any effect. The blue indicator light only ever had turned on for a second if I plug in the data cable while the printer is on. I cannot make this light turn on by applying pressure to the nozzle in an attempt to trigger the Strain Gauge)
  • Within the community firmware, reset to factory settings (It's still running the community firmware, so I'm not sure exactly what that did, unless it just erased any previous leveling settings and offsets)
  • Double checked the motherboard to ensure Z1 and Z2 were plugged into the correct ports (they were!)

If there's anything else you can think to try, or know of any solutions to this problem please let me know!
