I just took the DES II test, and scored 27. high enough for concern. Of course the way it's written it could be half that depending on how "all the time" is interpreted.
But the sections on out of body made me question.
Many of my memories are visual. Like a photo album. But lots of them I'm not looking through my eyes, but I'm standing several feet away, watching. Or I ahve two versions of the image, one "First Person" through my eyes, one "Third Person" through an observer's eyes.
Example: I have a vivid memory of talking to my friend Wanda's mom through the screen door of her kitchen. I can see Polly's face through the screen wire, with the center bar of the screen door in the bottom of my visual field. So my head is ~ door handle level. About right for a 4 yr old.
But I also see the image from a viewpoint about 6 feet away, with eyes about my present height above round level. From this view, I can see Me in profile and see Polly badly through the screen. With difficulty I can imagine the scene from other angles, suggesting that I have built a 3D model of the scene in my head, but the one exterior view is pretty easy to do.
I'm wondering if this indicates that I've been doing depersonalization for a long time? Or is this just the same process that I use when I read a novel, painting canvases for the Mind's Eye?
