Thoughts on EMDR

One of the theories about how EMDR works:

It takes up working memory. So you don't have as much working memory to load the trauma event. Your process this data slows down the processing of the trauma being considered.

If this is true, then you should be able to adjust the degree of work the EMDR creates by doing things like:

  • Instead of a simple right left path, use a complex path like that traced out by the tip of a double pendulum/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0Z8wLLPNE0
  • Instead of flashing dots, flash non-triggering images. Could even be abstract images.
