Ok: I think I get WoT. Too much fight or flight go hyper. Stay in hyper too long, go hypo.
Too much freeze or fawn go hypo. Stay in hypo too long start self harm, risk taking etc.
In hypo your emotions are numbed.
When do they unnumb?
Right now I'm thinking there are two operations going.
- In hypo, your emotions are numbed more or less while you're in hypo. They start to normalize once you are in WoT.
- In addition there is a emotion clipping function. Get hyperaroused or hypoaroused too much/too often, and strong emotions are clipped. This setting doesn't change much during normal cycles.
- Pushing the envelope a bit helps stretch the WoT. Nothing bad happens, so the clipper is relaxed a bit.
- Push the envelope hard, and the clipping increases (less strong emotion)
otherwise, if I've had someone numbed emotions for the last 40 years, have I been lurking in hypo all that time? What have I been doing (besides jogging) when I get my pulse up to 100?
Also, based on this, why isn't cutting or other self harm, with suitable safety measures so poorly regarded as a hypo coping mechanism?
