Is it a normal thing to compare and minimalize your own trauma?

I find myself doing it a lot. "Oh it was kinda bad but not as bad as XYZ!!" or "I feel lucky that it was only ABC instead of XYZ" etc and sort of just...not admitting that what I went through was also bad and letting it stop there?

(I mostly notice it going outwardly when a friend gets close and says something like "Why don't you talk to your mother?" and I go "oh well she made my childhood living hell but at least I had a mom! haha" or some weird variation where i almost make it a joke??)
