Advanced Accounting - Advice?

I’m not doing so hot in my advanced accounting class and I was wondering if anyone had advice or tips and tricks on how to get better at it. I’ve been copying the text and correlating the entries to the consolidation worksheet and that seems to have helped for a chapter. I need help more along the lines of retained earnings BOY for NCI and the credit entries for investment in subsidiary. Any help will be welcome.
