Whats the point in introducing the apothicons in the first place???

Seriously what was the point? I feel like Moon should have the Canon ending with the earth being destroyed and the characters sitting on the moon wasting away. While victis tries to survive. There was no point in all the apothicon shit fucking stupid. (Edit) (Honestly would love all your opinions on what they should have done)
