"Unsinkable" Gauntlet

So I noticed some perks, elixirs, and medallions (forgot the name apparently) and even weapons are very helpful for the Gauntlet. What are some good tips you have?
One thing I saw while watching MrDalekJD play is that the Kraken counts as headshots apparently. Not sure if intended or not.
