The problem with nice guys is that they often only seem nice. You've made it clear to him that you weren't physically attracted to him before - he was older, fatter, plain - but he seemed to be okay with that and sharing the same social and hobby spaces with him caused no issues. You'd mentioned an interest in cosplaying to him in passing, and he seemed delighted, even offering his place for a photoshoot, and some minor skills with photography should be you be so inclined.
What's the worst that can happen? A lot, soberly, but you believed that you had a decent judge of his character, and he didn't seem the sort to take advantage of things.
Yes, he played a gracious host. But you let your guard down too much. You flirted with him, enjoying the attention, and he was quick to stammer out an apology the first time he accidentally touched you a bit too long, a bit too intimately. You were slow to realize, as good as the lighting was, there was only one door out, that his touches - just to help you strike a pose, just so that the fabric fell in a way that was more alluring - were getting more insistent, lingering longer...
You could see it in his face when he made up his mind to have you. You tried to apologize for teasing him, for leading him on.
It's strange how nice guys can suddenly go deaf.
