Hello everyone,
I have 9 years of IT experience, with 4 years in Cybersecurity as a SOC Engineer. My current manager of 3 years is not signing my CISM application letter, stating I lack experience in all the domain. However, my previous manager where I worked with him for more than a year has already signed the application form.
Any advice what should I do now?
UPDATE: I wrote an email to ISACA, stating about my concerns. They were happy with my previous manager signing my application form and a couple of documents related to current role. They've approved my application and I'll get my certificate in 10days. Thank you all for your support 🙏.
Ask your current manager to provide detailed examples for their justification on your lack of experience. If they cannot provide this, then escalate the issue up the chain. You should also let them know that you disagree with their decision and will be reaching out to peers for your endorsements.
I don't know if you need this for your job, or just for your career progression. But your manager's job includes mentoring and helping you be a better professional. If they are unwilling or unable to do that, then they should not have an issue with you going outside your company to get what you need to progress.
I would recommend that you look to peers outside your organization if your manager still refuses to endorse you. They're not going to fire you for going past them for an endorsement. And if they do, then you probably don't want to work for them anyway.
