We may only have the 12 team field for a couple years before another round of expansion, but I was curious how the next 10 years of playoff participants will compare to the past 10 years of NY6 participants. Hereโs a breakdown of the 120 participants in NY6 bowls (which includes CFP semifinal games) over the past 10 years:
10 Ohio State
9 Alabama
7 Clemson, Georgia
6 Oklahoma
5 Michigan, Penn State
4 Oregon, Ole Miss, Florida State, Notre Dame, Washington
3 Baylor, Florida, USC, Michigan State, Wisconsin
2 UCF, TCU, LSU, Auburn, Texas, Cincinnati, Utah, Oklahoma State
1 Stanford, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Houston, Miami, Liberty, Boise State, Arizona, North Carolina, Western Michigan, Tulane, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Iowa, Memphis, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Missouri
25 teams made multiple NY6 appearances, and another 20 made one appearance.
How much will this change in the next 10 years?
Do we expect the most frequent attendees from the last 10 years to keep it up going forward?
Will anyone make it each of the next 10 years?
Who will fall out, and who will pick up the vacant spots?
Will the expanded field see more parity, an even greater consolidation at the top, or about the same as the last decade?
