Set-Price Stock Buyback, Returning Value to Shareholders

Post Body

Do companies ever buy stocks directly from shareholders at a set price? I would think this would be a good way to give value directly to the shareholders. Otherwise all the company could do is buy back stocks on the open market and hope to influence demand. I find it hard to understand how a company can directly reward shareholders, it always seems indirect is the only way.

Comments

Highly liquid issues are usually bought back at market value- less liquid shares are often bought back in a dutch auction via a voluntary tender offer.
