I heard that staff have gotten layoff notices at CRC due to Chuckawalla closing. I also heard they are ahead of schedule with closing. If any CRC staff are on here, how many COs are affected? I know Ironwood will absorb some of the staff from Chuckawalla then the most senior COs will bump the lower seniority officers at CRC. There’s also talks no definite plans yet that the transportation hub at CIM might shut down and relocate to NKSP.

For the staff that has been around when standardized staffing was implemented can attest to the lower seniority officers being given layoff notices. So anyone (newer) planning on trying to get to a southern prison plan on that being several years with everything that’s going on right now.

If any of the newer staff on here that may be impacted with a layoff notice, now is the time to start seeing what options you have or consider other choices such as going to CHP, Alcoholic Beverage Control, Investigations with the other various state agencies such as DMV, Dept. of Insurance, Bureau of Automotive Repair, DSH Police, or even out of state.

If I was just getting into the department facing a potential layoff, I definitely wouldn’t wait to the last minute to start researching my options.
