So I've been thinking, what would be the chances of getting an initiative passed? I know we wouldn't be able to get any of our rights back through one the way most of the state votes, but what about taking something away from them.
As it currently stands, current and former LEOs are exempted from just about every gun law in the state. If we could pass an initiative saying that police must be held to the same standard as every other citizen, it would possibly cut down on some of the stupidity, as the unions only back these laws if they are exempt.
The benefits of this plan:
-Initiatives are completely outside the normal legislative process. No legislature, no Governor veto, nothing.
-If I remember correctly, initiatives overrule any current laws, and they can change the constitution.
With all the cop hate lately, with (just from the Bay Area) OPD sleeping with a minor, corruption, and deaths of unarmed individuals, it wouldn't be too difficult to convince the population that they shouldn't be allowed to own 10 round mags, assault weapons, or "Unsafe" Handguns. Any organization opposing it would either paint themselves hypocrites or point our just how inane the laws are in the first place.
Probably too late for this election year, but I think it might have a strong chance of working.
Questions, comments, concerns, or opinions on any of this?
