I (m40) originally applied for my CCW through the sheriffs department in May of 2022!! I didn’t hear back from them until June of 2024!!!
However, in the meantime I found out that if the city you live in has a police station that you could go through them. I wish I had know that sooner.
So in March of 2024, I applied through my local police station. The process was expensive and thorough but it was relatively quick.
Here’s what was required: Application - I think it was $39 Live scan - about $130 Psych evaluation (had to drive to SB county) about $350. The 16 hour training was $250.
For qualification la county ppl had to shoot 82 rounds and sb and OC only 21.
Final meeting with police chief (paid ccw card processing fees $80) The duration of this process about approx
It ended up taking about 3-4 months and almost $1000.
On one time I’m glad they do their due diligence in this process but at the same time, it’s way too expensive and really shouldn’t take this long. But I’m finally done.
Now to get some self defense insurance 😩
