First time cat owner and I need some advice on how to handle this because it’s driving me nuts. My cat HAS to be near me constantly. If I’m in bed she has to be laying on my chest/head, if I’m sitting down she has to be on my lap or attacking my ankles, if I’m eating she has to be near it. If I’m in the shower she constantly jumps at the door, if I’m on the toilet she constantly tries to jump up at me, she could be dead asleep, the second I move she’s up and underfoot or right in front of me. I can’t do anything. I can’t kick up a remote, or a controller, can’t use my phone without her trying to nudge/bump my hands with her head, etc…
She doesn’t seem to have any other symptoms of anxiety from what I’m reading and I play with her for hours a day, feed her on as best a schedule as I can, what else can I do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is your cat loving you. Each cat is different and you have a clinger! You can make sure the cat has places to be close to you but not too close, like a box for them on your desk, their own cuddly blanket next to you on the couch. A heating pad on the bed.
Make other areas more attractive for them but still near you and you might get some peace. Otherwise, enjoy the love! Many cat owners would kill for such a cuddler.
