I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and my health insurance provider has been unable to help me with this over the course of the five years since I was first diagnosed, having issued me two separate CPAP machines that didn't improve my sleep at all. My first supervisor informed me that I should sign up for FMLA as a form of protection. I signed up a while back and have opted to renew my FMLA each time the opportunity has been presented by HR.
Does FMLA cover me if I'm chronically late to work? I have a very hard time getting up and am late all the time because of this, but until my health provider resolves said sleeping problem I will not be able to fix this. I have heard from some workers that other employees abuse FMLA, which is not my intention. But I also don't want to lose my job and don't really know what to expect. The three supervisors I have had since my first one retired all have either not cared that I'm chronically late, or just have never asked me to log my time when I'm late. And they definitely all knew/know that I'm late all the time. Should I be concerned?
