I live east of the Cascades, in Bend, and while we don't see the crazy low temps some places do, I run pretty cold. I am not looking for something to keep me warm while active (I have most of that, already), but for just spending time outdoors when it's really cold out.
Which of these would you go for?
- Fjallraven Singi: https://www.fjallraven.com/us/en-us/men/jackets/down-jackets/singi-down-jacket-m2
- No waterproof/breathable layer, but at those temps, it's probably below freezing, so just being able to resist snow is probably ok.
- Waxed outer layer seems tougher than some of the other options, and probably longer lasting.
- Eddie Bauer Peak XV - https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/388322243/mens-peak-xv-down-jacket
- No waterproof breathable.
- Outer layer seems kind of light weight.
- Very warm looking with all that 800 fill down.
- Outdoor Research Stormcraft Parka - https://www.rei.com/product/195332/outdoor-research-stormcraft-down-parka-mens
- Goretex layer means it's going to stay dry
- 700 fill down is pretty good
I also looked at a Filson Down Cruiser parka, but the fit on the thing was absolutely terrible. It was made for a cone person or something - it fits ok at the shoulders, and was huge at the waist - and I'm not what you'd call rail-thin, unfortunately. I liked the waxed cotton shell, but for the price, it better fit well.
