I’ve always wanted to go to burning man because I love music, art & festivals, but I’m concerned about sensory overload because I’m autistic and sober.
I have an amazing opportunity to go to burning man with a conclave as a fire performer, and I really want to go but I’m anxious and have a lot of questions.
Does anyone have any autistic experiences to share or know anyone autistic who has gone?
Are there quiet and safe spaces available if I get overwhelmed?
Are there other sober people there or is there any sort of sober camp/community?
Is there anything I should know before making my decision?
Edit: I’m not worried about my ability to stay sober, I called it out because I can’t numb my senses with substances. Also it would be nice to connect with other sober people if everyone else is tripping.
Edit 2: You all are amazing, thank you for the information and tips! I have decided that based on the support I received here I’ll be just fine, but I plan on going in a camper van for a safe space and extra protection from the sound & weather. You have got me pumped, see you all in the dust!
We camp on the outer edge by walk in camping. It's ACTUALLY quiet there. If you are in walk in camping it's beautiful and silent.
