What to look out for when buying on eBay and FBM?

I'm building an HT for a new build with a budget of 5k for the speakers, AVR, and amp. I almost never used stuff and I've heard stories of white van scams and cheap knockoffs of speakers. Just wondering what to look out for and how to know if something is too good to be true.
EDIT: After doing a quick search in FBM, I notice a few local sellers of full brand sets that have a similar description, along the lines of, "System was only used for a few hours before I had to move."
