Should I upgrade from my Bose Companion Series 3 2.1 setup for my PC?

I have been using the Bose companion Series 3 for probably around a decade.
Is it worth it to upgrade to bookshelf speakers, a sub, and amp combo instead?
If so, besides a dayton 1200 sub, what amp and bookshelf speakers should I get to keep costs low but still sound amazing for gaming and music?
For the record, I still think my Bose system sounds amazing, but I am not sure if I am just missing out and it could sound so much better..
