I have a few pairs of Sansui, Fisher and Pioneer 3-way floorstanding speakers from the 80s, and I love the look of them (and the sound from the post-budget-focused Fishers). I use them in a 2.0 system for pure music listening (hair/speed metal, classical, new wave, folk and dread/synthwave), but I do notice they struggle keeping up with the techno tracks with highly layered instrumentation and in super-speed shredding.
I don't see many options for these "big woofer" (10" ) speakers out there anymore. Why is that? Is it a pure space issue or is there some disadvantage to using the big woofers beyond that? Maybe a 2-way system with/without a sub is more efficient overall?
So, my main question is what are some of the best options for big vintage speakers out there under say $200-300? Also, how do these options stack up to modern sub-8" floor-standing speakers of similar price/relative market standing?
