I noticed that there were a few posts here recently about rebirth so I'll give a try at describing it from my current understanding
There are two main ways I've known rebirth to be described
The first is wholly symbolic. For example, when we go through transformative or highly significant life events, we may be "reborn" referring to when we come out with a different psychological structure.
The second is based in the concept that you never "die" in the first place. Certain aspects of your consciousness or energies continue to compel/attract certain qualities after your physical body can no longer maintain contact with them, and they find expression some other way. (Edit: This is also referred to as a form of karma, I just don't know the exact term but I just saw it in another post as cosmic or transcendental karma)
So, if you replace the combo of "birth and death" with "birth and rebirth" it is being said like that
Another way is like this, when we say "death" it would be more accurately described as "the cessassion of life supporting the vessel", in terms of the concept of rebirth
