Refuge Vows Question

I live nowhere near a Buddhist Temple but am fully devoted to the ideals of and practices contained in Buddhist teachings. I have seen a couple temples offer “Remote Refuge Vows” for those who live too far away. Are these viable or do I need to try to find a Temple somewhere within driving distance to take the Refuge Vows?
