Downvotes incoming I'm sure. I go to a lot of shows. I went to their show in Raleigh tonight. Doors 730, show 830. They arrived on the stage on the later side of things, close to 10pm. They didn't play Halfway Up until incredibly late. And that's the one song 85% of the people are there for.
If you want to keep the crowd going don't play your most mid Starbucks-stamped songs for the majority of the set. It was so boring, no one was moving, like being in a swamp of metastatica. Truly, I was so excited to go but this was very disappointing. The shared music experience euphoria present at other shows is palpably absent.
They're very talented, and their voices and harmonies are incredible, but there's something about their commitment to remaining mid that just kills the crowd. Play your best songs. What are you waiting for? You're not Beyonce, Yet. We're not all digging the deep tracks you're really jiving with right now. This is not the time to be experimental. This is the time to win over a crowd. How did they manage to drown themselves out?
The vocals are incredible yet they do little to showcase it. They lean into the guaranteed hipster crowd with social interaction issues to carry them through the show. If you have such an audience make it incredible. You have the talent. The musicianship. The vocals. What is with the commitment to being mid?
Signed by a frustrated spectator who saw a lot of talent force itself into a little bottle and then try to squeeze itself out of the neck. Truly boys, you're incredible, I mean it, but this is NOT it.
