I'm not a car guy so apologies if this is a naive question... I have a 2021 Big Bend with 93,000 miles. I drive a lot, and a bit of a lead foot, so I'm probably a bit hard on my vehicles. Perhaps this is why this it failed so early for me? Recently it got really loud... Like loud as if there's no muffler whatsoever. I took it to a muffler shop and they told me the connection between the cat and the rest of the exhaust (can't remember the exact wording) broke loose. They said a replacement catalytic converter was going to be $1k and labor was $2k. They said the old one was in fine condition to weld back into place so that I could just pay the $2k labor to have it welded instead of replaced (though of course he suggested buying the new cat so I can get more life out of the repair...maybe). The guy told me it was hard to access in this vehicle so it's a big job. This was in Southeast Michigan. Is this at all reasonable? The muffler shop had great google reviews, nobody complained about them overcharging, etc, but even if it's hard to access in this vehicle it's hard for me to wrap my head around paying this much.
