Hello! I am a huge musical theater fan and I’m making a trip to NYC to try and see as many musicals as I can and I’m SO EXCITED TO GO.
But I need some advice, I’m on a budget so I’ll go mostly to shows I can get discounts such as rush tickets, I’m planning to for sure see: Book of Mormon, Cabaret, Death becomes her, drag the musical, Great Gatsby, Gypsy and The Outsiders. I hope I win lottery tickets to Hamilton and Wicked, if I don’t I can’t really afford to go see them since I wanna watch as much as I can.
Now I’m doubting some other shows to see, personally the musicals I enjoy most are camp and funny, or have great choreography and lots of dancing. Some of my favorites are Hajrspray, Legally Blonde, Hamilton, Newsies, Waitress, Kinky Boots, etc. More dramatic and slow shows don’t really excite me, I’ve seen Phantom, Next to normal and Les Mis for example and they’re not particularly my style
The shows I’m not so sold on are:
Sunset boulevard (I’ve never seen the show, everyone says it’s outstanding and that it’s such a unique take on the show so I don’t know if I’ll enjoy it as much as if I’d seen it before)
Maybe Happy Ending (From what I’ve seen it seems like it would be similar in pacing to something like next to normal or dear Evan Hansen, I don’t know if it’s the best for me)
Hadestown (I’ve seen it online, LOVE the first act but the second act is a snooze fest, maybe in person I’ll like it more but I’m not sure)
Chicago (I’ve seen people say it’s boring and no one really talks about it? Don’t know if it will be worth it)
SORRY for the never ending post, I’m just so excited to go and can’t wait to see what a try broadway show is
