Missed opportunity for Cabaret on Broadway? (Spoilers)

Post Body

I saw Cabaret on Broadway via lottery last night, which was great and holds up for a production from the 1960s.

If I have one nitpick, it's that there's a missed opportunity with the male protagonist, Cliff, being played by Ato Blankson-Wood (a black man) in this production. It would have been more powerful if the Nazi smuggler friend called him the 'n' word or something after Cliff confronts him. Or something subtle like "I thought you were different than you people (or kind)" or something.

Yes it'd deviate a slight bit from the original material, but it'd highlight the core Nazi belief of racial superiority, the general racism at the time, and not treating him as true equal.

What do you all think?
