I had the pleasure of going to see Wicked in Melbourne last night, which happened to be the opening night of the production. I was amazed at the ensemble and the principals passion and professionalism on stage, no one was a weak link and everyone was incredible. I bought a program and a t-shirt, it was "merch booth prices" (i.e. jacked up) but I don't mind. Standouts were Sheridan Adams as Elphaba, Courtney Monsma as Glinda/Galinda and Liam Head as Fiyero. Monsma's characterisations during Popular were hysterical and had the whole theatre laughing. Adams' Defying Gravity is effortless and beautiful and brought the house down. And finally, Liam Head's performance as Oz's bad boy Fiyero was on fire, he was perfection and perfectly suited to the role. Other shoutouts of course to Robyn Nevin as Madame Morrible and replacement Wizard for this run, Simon Burke AO.
