Anarchists! Terrorists! Socialists! Radicals! All these people hope to bring down the French government and put her into anarchy and create chaos for their devious political agendas! Luckily the Progressive Republicans and their right-wing government have the solution: The necessary arming of all policemen with firearms! Of course they will be trained and such as we are not stupid (although we will leave the cost of training to the local governments of France), but this is a step in the direction of stability.

Of course the Radicals-Socialists bloc in parliament is against this new law, calling it a "blatant move to oppress the French people and their opinions" which they say is "contradictory to the ideals of our Republic". Hon hon hon, they just want to make sure we don't hurt their secret plans to turn our state anarchist! Can we forget the Communards? Now, admittedly, they didn't support the Communards... but I'd wager that if the Paris Commune came back today they'd be there helping!

Ah, well, I digress. The point is, French police will be armed in order to defend themselves and the people against radical saboteurs and agitators and, I suppose, violent criminals as well. Mostly anarchists though.
