I had a weird take on Biden, this is just an idea but what if Biden is the reason things have felt so unreal since the 80s.

His career started off with him being elected right before/after his children and wife were killed in a car crash. He gets more power, more family members die. Becomes VP just to be a joke without any power, a third wheel delegated to the sidelines. He finally attained the Presidency decades after his most recent run, only to have lost his abilities to do the job as he once saw possible.

Did he make a twilight zone deal to get power, mistakenly thinking he was giving his soul; but really he loses what gave him a soul. Eventually, losing his very identity and ability to be anything but a wanderer in a dreary fog.
