Props to Canelo for taking this fight, I'm excited for it. But I just wanted to put this out there for those who dont know. Some cruiserweights may weight 210 or more on fight night. Makabu is not one of them. He weighted in at 197.5 for Cieslak in 2020, and 196.5 for Bellew in 2016. Now, you dont cut weight in excess (the limit is 199) so that is about Makabu's fight night weight.
What is Canelo's fight night weight lately? I didnt find it so easily. Amir Khan claimed he was 187 when they fought, but that sounds like BS. So what else have we got? Canelo said he expected to weight 180 on fight night against Kovalev. This seems like a fair number to me and I wouldnt be surprised if that was the case for his following fights. So whats the weight difference between the two on fight night recently? About 17lbs. Thats pretty huge and props to Canelo, I like this fight. But itd be easy for some people to claim a natural 30 or even 40 lbs difference between the two and I just wanted to point that out as being wrong. If the WBC makes the weight limit 190 lbs it doesn't really change anything I think, Makabu just now has to actually cut weight.
