I always see pushback over the idea of a UFC style system by the subreddit. It’s because boxers would be paid less. I don’t understand this concern though. A boxing superstar getting paid 1/10 what he’s paid In a match still makes way more money than the majority of us would be paid in a whole year. I do feel bad for less big names and journeymen getting significantly less, but would they anyway under this kind of system? I’ve seen that journeymen boxers get paid terribly anyway.
Anyway ufc fighters getting paid less is due to either Dana white or the market. No one is asking Dana white to run this hypothetical organization and boxing has consistently shown that its stars have the market to pay theit stars more, it’d be less excusable for this organization to give huge drastic pay cuts considering that.
I guess I’d like to know why I should care that Canelo get 10 million a fight instead of maybe 1.5 million. I’m not his accountant after all. Whether or not this is possible is one thing of course, but it’s weird seeing people so against the idea of it. It’d be awesome to see fights be made smoothly and rarely have negotiations break down.
