A lot of people want Crawford to sign to PBC so he can get the fights. That’d be great, but I doubt it’ll happen. But I’m not too upset about it because I think I understand Crawford’s mindset here and I think it’s reasonable.
Crawford doesn’t need to be signed to PBC to get the fights. He just needs to be big enough to be worth cross promoting for, cuz right now, he isn’t. So how does he do that? IMO, he just needs 1 big fight. If Crawford got the Errol Spence fight and won, he’s suddenly huge enough to be a target for all top Welterweights, even those in other promotions. But I’d actually go as for as to say that a fight with Porter, Thurman, Pacquiao, or Danny Garcia that did well against Spence is also enough to make his name large enough that it’d be easy to get fights. Yep, these are all PBC fighters. Is it likely that any one particular fighter will take a Crawford fight? No, but luckily there’s several different options here and I think Arum knows Crawford’s future is grim if Arum can’t put up a good offer.
It doesn’t make business sense for Arum to not promote Crawford’s status with some big (expensive offer) fights. Why have an overpaid fighter with little relative draw who can only fight no names, from Arum’s point of view. Yeah he said 50/50 for Spence but I think that’s him bsing for whatever reason since it doesn’t make business sense.
And if that fails he can go the mandatory route to fight that one big name and basically be set.
Thoughts?
