My 9 year old boy might be a little spoiled, but he deserves it. I brought him home when he was about 2. I adopted him from the humane society. I was wanting another boxer and had been checking the humane society for about a year. A female had recently been brought in. She was 4 or 5 years old and was severely overbred. She was very withdrawn and would need a lot of attention. I told the attendant I wanted to think about adopting her overnight. I really wanted another boxer but I didn’t want to make a snap decision. I came back the next morning ready to adopt her and someone beat me to it. I was bummed but I was told she went to a very good home. I decided to walk through and visit the other dogs. I saw this boxer who looked very depressed laying on his bed. He looked up and saw me and REALLY came alive. It was love at first site. Both the male and female were rescued by the Human Society from a puppy mill. The male had only been kept in a kennel unless he was needed to breed. He had absolutely no training of any kind. He had never been on a leash or been indoors… nothing. He was definitely a handful in the beginning but it was truly a labor of love. Walking him in the beginning was like walking an 80 pound catfish with all the jumping and jerking. However I always train with positive reinforcement only. I never yelled at him or punished him. He trained pretty easily. Watching him come inside my apartment for the first time was something.. he stuck his head inside and looked at me like he was asking if it was ok. Then he came inside.. he got up on my bed, got comfy and gave me the most loving look… he was telling me that loved his new home. I have had him 7 years now and we go just about everywhere together. He sleeps under the covers pushed just as close to me as he can. I have spoiled this dog with all the love possible.. and he shows me all the time how much he appreciates it, he only gets premium food and treats. It is handmade humane grade dogfood. I live on a fixed income and needless to say that food is expensive. It’s about $150 a month for the food. I will do without whatever I have to so that he gets to have that food. He does have food allergies to most if not all the dried and processed foods. I love my Finnegan with all my heart!!!❤️
