Opinions requested on situation at local alley last week
Post Body

So I'm the President of a league that bowls on Thursday nights at a local place. No real responsibilities, just be there in case something happens.

Last Thursday was a position round, if it matters. I show up a little earlier than normal, have a beer while watching sports waiting for practice time. On the lanes adjacent to ours is a team that has one of the sons of the owners. He's a nice enough kid, good bowler as you would imagine.

About 20-30 minutes before practice time rolls around, his lanes turn on and he starts practicing. Not actual games, just free play. No one else on his team practiced, nor did any of the other lanes turn on, just his. For some reason, this irked me as unfair. I went up to the desk and talked to the manager, saying that if he was going to get pre-league practice, then they needed to turn on all the lanes for everyone to get extra practice. The manager told me "You can practice all you want, just buy a game." I asked if the kid had bought games, and he looked at me like I was an idiot. I said "that is very unfair to the people that actually pay to bowl here, you know. I don't care if he wants to practice for free before league, just NOT ON THE LANES HE'S GOING TO BOWL LEAGUE ON." The manager shrugged his shoulders and said (paraphrasing) "Tough. I answer to the owners, not you".

I steamed all night for this, and funny enough, the kid threw a 290 and a 300 that night, helping win his team all their games.

Am I in the right to be pissed off about this? Is this alley just a playground for the owner's kids at the expense of the paying customers, or am I blowing this way out of proportion?

EDIT UPDATE: I found the owner's email address and sent him a message on Monday describing the situation as dispassionately and factually as I could, with a request for his reply. I have not heard anything back.
