We have a 1 year old BT. We rescued him from the Humane Society in October. He's a very loving and affectionate dog. And, we enjoy having him at the house very much. However, there's several extreme issues, several of which I have posted here about before:
He chews everything! It was suggested here before that he needs something to chew on to satiate his need to chew. So, since then, I have kept a steady supply of toys and raw hides. That has not stopped him! He's chewed two very expensive pairs of shoes. Countless stuffed animals. And, last night, he chewed my son's new quadcopter that he got for Christmas.
He's very protective. To the point of trying to bite. If he's lying with one of the kids and I go to wake them up, say good night, anything, he growls and bears his teeth. He has snipped at me several times. Same thing goes if he's sitting with me and my girlfriend comes over.
He shits in the basement! Honestly, this is so frustrating. Every night... every single night, if he's given access to the house, he goes into the finished basement and shits on the floor. Even more frustrating, he tries to hide it. So, I find a pile behind the couch, in a closet, behind the toilet in the bathroom. I hate keeping him locked up all night, but there really isn't another option.
He's extremely dog aggressive. He will actually hurt himself trying to get at other dogs. Walking him in our neighborhood is damn near impossible because you can't make it 50 feet without seeing a dog in a backyard, at a glass door or out for a walk.
I am seriously debating dropping him back off at the Humane Society. But, I really don't want to. I'm hoping /r/BostonTerrier can talk me out of it and give me some some real advice on dealing with these issues.
