New dealer (IA) waiting for licensure and my family is getting impatient.
Post Body

I’m more than excited for this opportunity that was handed me a couple weeks ago. I’m 23 years old always wanted to work in the casino industry and finally it’s happening after years of trying to get in somewhere. My family has had mixed feelings about this opportunity, pretty much ever since it was handed to me, my mother was not very supportive in the beginning because the casino I’m working at is a half hour drive from where I live and also because she knows how little dealers make before tips. A couple of her friends shared some more feelings that they don’t think it’s worth the drive considering the compensation but eventually she realized that this is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and that if the casino closer to me won’t take me, at least I’m able to become a part of something that I’ve been dreaming of for years. I know it’s not gonna be easy work. I know that there are many problems dealers have with their current jobs, but despite that I am extremely excited. Unfortunately, before I have a start date for my training, (in Iowa all casino training is done in the house. We do not have dealer schools.) I have to wait to get licensed. I am aware of all the legal requirements that the casino has to go through before I can get my license, but my parents are getting extremely impatient, considering that I’ve been out of a job since February. My mother even going as far as to say that it is the McDonald’s manager story all over again. (was promised a management position at my local McDonald’s, and was left hanging). Luckily the pre-employment process seems to be wrapping up and I might have a start date sometime this week but even then, my mother who didn’t support me in the beginning and then all the sudden changed her tune is still not satisfied. What should I do?
