Class idea... thing. Help wanted.
Post Body

EDIT: This is why I came to you guys. You have good ideas. Thanks go out to Compedditor, for coming up with a much needed revision of the action skill, Exilekng, for giving me a way to start differentiating this character from the Gunzerker (as well as a way to use "Outlaw"), Asianyeti, for coming up with a really cool "Quick Draw" capstone and a skill, and to the rest of you for your input and different ideas.

EDIT 2 Wow, you guys are really good at this. I've gotten a bunch of cool ideas so far, and I'm looking forward to what You Guys/Me/Us can come up with. If you've got an idea for a skill, post it. All input is appreciated. Also, since the suggestions and ideas that have been posted have kinda hammered out a lot of the details, I'll be able to come up with that are based more on the gameplay, and less on things out of movies. So, I'll be useful, now, as well.

EDIT 3 New and improved! Now with a smattering of skills!

So, in an act of boredom, I decided to create a Borderlands 2 class. That is all well and fine, except for the part where I got really invested in this, and can't stop thinking about it. So, since I want to get this over with, I'm coming to you guys for ideas/balancing for the skill trees. So let's jump right in.

The class is called the Gunslinger. Now named the Outlaw. The whole character/class has a very strong Wild West influence. As well as a lot of Krieg influence. (More for the way his trees are built, and less for the character and playstyles.)

The action skill is Deadeye. When activated, all shots fired will be critical hits, no matter where they land on the enemy. This effect will last 15 seconds.

Now, I have the frame work for two of his skill trees down, a rough idea for the third, and then a name for an alternate third. There will be a "stack" system for all trees. I've only thought of about one skill per tree, yet, but I will update this whenever I think of more. The idea for the different trees are comes from the different archetypal roles of a gunslinger in Western films. A good rule of thumb is just to think of Clint Eastwood's characters.

  • Marksman: The focus of this tree is centered around buffs for critical damage, accuracy, and general Deadeye buffs. Very Zero-esque, right? The idea behind this is that a marksman would be able to pull off those insane trickshots that you see. To that end, he would need to be able to boost his accuracy, which ties in with Deadeye. I threw critical buffs in there, because it just kind of felt right. The stacks for this tree are Bullseye. These are a bit like Critical Ascension, they stack critical hits, but they have a presence throughout the entire tree, like bloodlust or Anarchy. You can stack up to 50, and these decay slowly. These play right into the capstone: I'm Not Right Handed. (Well, one version of it. I have two.) When you have enough stacks of Bullseye, and activate Deadeye, the character switches the gun from the right to the left hand, and then has a damage boost, and a more significant boost to critical damage. The other version, which I slightly prefer, just gives a critical damage boost for Deadeye, but the switch happens right before the end, and the last shot has a powerful crit damage boost.

    Skills:

Pecos: Up to a 10% chance to shoot the gun out of your enemies hands. Will not work with raid
                   bosses.

Aim For the Squishy Parts: Up to a 5% crit damage buff for every point of accuracy between 90 and
                                             100.

Sighted Properly: Up to a 35% accuracy buff, as well as 20% faster ADS.

Take Your Time: Melee override. When activated, you will take a deep breath, before aiming, that
gives a 1.5% accuracy and .8% critical damage buff, per stack of Bullseye.

Long Barrel: For every stack of Bullseye, you get up to a 1.5% spread reduction, and a .5% accuracy
                           bonus.

Custom Tooled Cartridges: Up to a 40% damage and 75% bullet speed buff.

Train the senses: A 1% action skill duration, as well as an action skill cooldown rate buff, for every
                                  stack of Bullseye.

  • Legend: This tree is the weird one, since it introduces an entirely new mechanic: Intimidation. Intimidation is what it sounds like, for the most part. It causes a hesitation, as well as a accuracy debuff, for enemy attacks. The tree focuses on Intimidation, damage buffs, and survivability. Think of an Old West legend like Billy the Kid. He had a lot of skill, but decidedly more rumors about him. This tree is about embodying the rumors of a legendary gunfighter. Mainly, rumors like how you've never been put down by bullets; or that you can multiple people with one shot; and your body count. That last part is the basis for this tree's stacks: Fame. It stacks kills: 1 for most enemies, 5 for badasses, and 10 for super badasses. These decay VERY slowly, and go up to 150 or so. They are also tied to the Intimidation mechanic. The capstone of this tree is Make My Day. As it stands, it's a lot like Come At Me, Bro, so input and variations on this are gladly welcomed. Basically, it heals you completely, gives you a damage reduction, and doubles all "chances" that are tied to Intimidation.

    Skills:

The Jenkin's Massacre: Up to a 25% chance that the killing bullet spawns another that homes in on
                                           the nearest enemy.

No Grave Can Hold Me/Tell the Reaper To Wait(not sure which to go with): Up to 30% more FFYL,
and when you rise, you get healed for half health, a 25% ammo refill, and a
                                           10 sec 40% damage buff.

Stroll Through the Crossfire: Up to a 25% gun damage buff when moving, but you gain an extra 20%
                                                  when you aren't running.

Feed the Legend: Kill skill. Regenerate 5% of your health as well as generate 1 Fame, per second.

A Name to Run From: Up to a .5% chance, per stack of Fame, to Intimidate. Effects diminish as
enemies become more powerful. Bandit -> Marauder -> Elite Maruader.

Ferryman's Toll: Melee Override. When activated, you throw a silver dollar at the enemy you are
currently aiming at. This coin marks them. Marked enemies have an increased
Intimidation chance, effect, and duration. Diminishing rule still applies.

Fistful of Dollars: At 100 stacks of Fame, whenever you activate FT, you toss a handful of coins,
                                  marking up to 5 enemies.

  • Quick Draw: I really only came up with this one as an afterthought, and as such, I only have the basic idea, stack idea, and a skill. Now, thanks to Asianyeti, we have a capstone, and a second skill, as well. Basic focus is on rate of fire increases, accuracy kill skills, and Adrenaline, the stacks. You gain adrenaline stacks by giving and receiving damage. This goes up to 60, and decays rapidly. One skill is Fan The Hammer. Up to a 50(?)% chance, when firing the first shot, to fire the rest of the mag immediately. The other is Lead From the Dead. The shooting an enemy marks them, (grave stone?). Dealing the killing blow on the marked enemy refills your gun with however many shots it took to kill them. If you switched guns, it will only refund the bullets of the gun that you got the death blow with. Also, only one enemy can be marked at a time. Capstone for this tree is Pandora's Fastest Hands (working title). While in Deadeye, switching weapons after a kill will draw your reticle towards the nearest enemy and give a 3 second fire rate and accuracy buff to the weapon. As Asianyeti pointed out, this works really well with Lead From the Dead, as it lets you string kills like crazy. Taken up to 11 if you get FTH to proc.

    Skills:

Like A Bullwhip: A 15% weapon reload and 20% weapon swap speed boost. 1% per stack of
                                 Adrenaline, for both.

Twitchy Trigger-Finger: Up to 2% fire rate buff per stack of Adrenaline.

Steady Hand: Up to 50% recoil reduction and a 30% accuracy buff.

Slow Crash: Adrenaline stacks last twice as long.

Fan the Hammer: Up to a 50% chance that, when firing the first shot of a magazine, the rest will
                                    fire immediately.

Lead From the Dead: Shooting an enemy marks them. When you deal the killing blow, it refunds the
bullets spent from the gun that got the killshot. If you got a psycho down to
1 hp, with 4 shotgun blasts, but then finished him off with a single shot from a
revolver, it would only refund that one revolver shot.

Adrenaline Rush: When at max Adrenaline, you gain a 60% movement speed increase, as well as a
35% increase to weapon swap, reload speed, and fire rate.

  • This last one, Outlaw, I have no idea what it would be. I thought maybe a pistol based tree, but that's kind of Sal's thing. So, yeah. No idea. EDIT Outlaw is now the name of the class.

So that's pretty much it, for now. Any input is welcome, really. I just want to get this fleshed out and finished.
