We've just moved to the coast and have been going on a lot more beach walks as a result, in the summer we will be swimming regularly. Our 10 month BT doesn't like swimming though. He has been in the sea a handful of times but always looks really uncomfortable and he has never swam properly. If we are on a walk somewhere with lots of puddles, he will walk around them or leap over. We often have to cross small rivers on walks but he always manages to find a way to avoid getting his feet wet.
Any ideas to encourage him to go in the water more? I'd love to play with him in the sea and lochs in the summer, especially when it gets hot but I don't want to drag him in against his will. The deepest water he has been on was a couple months ago when we were at the beach and there was a bit of puddle of sea water about a 30cm deep, which he crossed with me literally sat in the middle underwater encouraging him to join me.
He loves being at the beach and he will happily walk along the shore, sometimes even getting his feet slightly wet, but he never has actually attempted to go into the water, even if we are both in the sea with a long line attached, he just sits on the beach and barks.
I've attached a photo of him for reference:
My BT was brought up by the sea as our flat was with a sea view .. was walking on the sand everyday … she hates waves.. but when she’s down the river she will put her legs in the water but no swimming still she may change but she’s 4 … she even avoids puddles 🤣🤣
