Signed up for the Infinite Access iPhone plan in July. Upgrade to 16. How?

I signed up in July for the 15 Pro Max. I've made two payments towards the plan. Do I have to make 10 more, for a total of 12, to be able to pre-order this Friday?
I want to get the 16PM, trade back this device in, pay it off and then close my account as Boost hasn't been very good for me.
Options here? Thanks.
