Context, I have a lot of B40s college friends (They rely on duit bantuan/financial aid). Every day I see them eat outside restaurants Nasi Campur and add the expensive lauk (either Sotong, Luncheon, Udang) that can go up to RM8 to RM12. Or go to those overpriced and overrated viral whatever cafe and food truck.
Meanwhile, I consider myself as lower middle M40 since I also receive the aid. Despite of that, everyday I eat college canteen Nasi Campur (Range RM4 to RM7. Just ayam at best), I even take away to eat for dinner in order to save few ringgits. Only once or twice I go out to eat with friends.
Every end of month, they always complain and tried to make me pity them by saying they have no money and claiming everything is expensive compared to their hometown (Kedah, Kelantan,). And they were confused on why I living comfortably even at end of the month. I already advised them not to always go out and eat because it will burn your bank account without you realising it.
And I remember exactly they said that, “Awak tu duduk bandar, awak tu anak orang senang.” And It kinda hurts my feelings (despite living with my parent’s rundown apartment in KL) because every day I try to skim my budget to have extra surplus in my bank. And they generally think orang KL are automatically anak orang senang.
Do you guys also deal with these kind of people? Where they think coming from more rural areas automatically makes you entitled for pity from “budak bandar”?
Of course, these are only like a chunk of them. Not every single one.
