So some context on the matter.
I recently bought something on Shopee and the price listed was RM100 which was a fraction of the actual price. I then proceeded to request COD service, because 1, it was just RM100, so keeping cash ready was not an issue. AND 2, I was out of the office without my cards (as a principle I do not save my card details in Shopee because it enables me to spend even more because of the convenience). And you may ask why not use bank transfer instead, I wanted to lock in the price as soon as possible and my area's internet is a bit slow.
I then reached out to the seller who assured me it was an original item and that I should not be worried. I then went about my day and when I reached back home at 2300, I was scrolling my Shopee when an idea hit me. If the seller was selling this item at such a low price, why not check his profile to see what other bargains I could scoop up. Upon getting on the seller's page, I was gutted, they only had 1 item for sale, the item to which I had already bought, I shrugged and was about to leave the page when something caught my eye. The seller had edited the price to RM1000 instead. My heart dropped.
Now I am worried about 2 things.
- My Shopee screen still shows that it is COD for RM100. I already told the receiver, that he will need to pay RM100 for the package which I will then reimburse him when I do go back there. Now if Shopee would to chase for RM1000, it is going to be an issue and a humiliating scene for the receiver who is a student.
- I am also afraid that the seller will purposely lapse the send by date just so that he can charge the new price which I think was unfair because firstly, he did not inform me the price had changed, and secondly, when I spoke to him, the link and price was shown in the chat. Nothing was said about any error.
So basically what I am asking here is if there is any sifu-sifu that has encountered this and what to do next? My main questions are:
- If just say the seller purposely lapse the send by date so that the order cancels, can I demand the same price from the seller assuming the item is still available?
- If the Shopee COD is approved for RM100, they cannot come around and demand RM1000 right?
- Is there any law in Malaysia that states that the seller needs to honor the original price as that is what we had agree upon?
- Do I have any grounds to at least request a reduced price of say RM750?
I have reached out to Shopee Chat agents, but they were no help. They kept repeating that this is between the seller and the buyer. I asked if there was any stipulation in the Shopee rules that protects consumers and they gave me the party line of needing 14 working days to get back to me.
