BMW e46 turbocharger change

Hello! Recently we noticed that the turbocharger adjustment motor (Google translate:P) was Not working so we repaired it, but schould i replace the turbocharger too? My mechanic told me if i change the adjustment motor i should buy a new turbolader to adjust them together. Is that True?
