Source of driveshaft grinding on xDrive F22 chassis
Post Body

Hey guys, thought Iā€™d share a discovery I made today diagnosing some weird rubbing/grinding noises coming from my car under hard acceleration. I initially suspected the retainer clip for the rear brake lines dropping and rubbing against the rear driveshaft, because that is a common problem with this chassis. But what I actually found after getting under the car was that one of the hardened plastic and felt-covered splash guard/protector pieces was actually rubbing against the shaft going into the transfer case next to the transmission oil pan. You can see from the wear on the shaft how much it was rubbing. I ended up just slapping a piece of double-sided tape between it and the metal where it was flexing. That seems to have done the trick so far. I just wanted to put this post out there incase anyone is having the same issue.
