I recently binged the whole show on amazon, and then watched the movie after that. The show was pretty silly, but I had a pretty good time watching it. The movie though, I really disliked it.
The entire plot was pretty damn depressing. Thad is a NFL washout whos broke and miserable and completely devoid of any redeeming qualities. Compare that to the show, where he was generally a “good” guy. I say “good” because his character is kind of hard to define and categorize, between all of the douchey things he does, and all the opposing good things he does, but in general I think he was a fun character that most of the audience wanted to root for. The times when him and Alex worked together were some of the best character building moments.
Part of the fun was the glamorous future ahead for some of these characters, like Thad and Alex. Completely erasing Thad’s future NFL career for a couple throwaway jokes about his money spending felt like a depressing way to close out that character.
The movie also lacked a lot of the atmosphere of the series. Most of the movie took place in the weird theme park setting, and I dont think we saw any of the standard parties or football from the show. Kind of a weird direction to go in...
There were a couple cameos from Radon and Craig that I was looking forward to (i read the casting list ahead of time), but they were very quick and forgettable.
Coach was just a weird drunk side character. Goat house gets destroyed. Sammy is 5X creepier than he was in the show, with his weird goat sex scene and everything else he did in the movie.
Overall, this movie was just very weird and disappointing. I can only imagine how confusing this movie would be if you saw it without watching the show - no football, no school stuff, just one long weird drug party. I think they could have done something cool by reuniting the cast for one last round of BMS plot. One last crazy party after a final victorious game, Alex getting drafted, closing out with all the characters... Instead we got whatever the hell this was
Thoughts?
Yeah, it feels like their negativity about the show ending and the difficulties at making the movie impacted the tone too much. So much darker than anything really before it. And 100% agree about Sammy. He was my least favorite character before this, but they only made him worse. Ugly dick too.

Yeah, and the least funny character. He's just gross.
